Step One: Avatar Creation

In FURY you only have one character, however everything except your name and gender can be changed after character creation. You never have need of another character!

There are no classes in FURY. You create your own class by selecting which abilities you wish to use. In Fury you define your class instead of your class defining you.

The most important choice in Avatar Creation is selecting which Realm you wish to fight for. If you have friends who are playing FURY then you may wish to join their realm. Upon FURY's release you will have access to a limited number of Realm Transfers, but for the Beta period you will not be able to change realms after creation, so choose your realm wisely.

Step Two: Tutorial

The Tutorial will teach you the basics of combat and how to use the interface. Follow the instructions that appear in the upper right corner of the screen.

During the tutorial you will select your starting archetype. There are eight in total representing the physical and spiritual disciplines of the schools of Life, Death, Growth and Decay. Choosing a starting archetype only determines which abilities you begin the game with, it does not bind you to any specific archetype.

Here are the archetype choices:

image Life Melee Champion Support melee class with stuns and snares.
Spiritual Healer Supports their team with buffs and heals.
image Growth Melee Warden Decent damage, knock-backs and buffs.
Spiritual Oracle Provides crowd control and team support.
image Death Melee Destroyer Very straightforward high melee damage.
Spiritual Invoker Summons fire to damage enemies.
image Decay Melee Overlord Wields heavy two handed weapons.
Spiritual Defiler Weakens enemies with air based magic.

Step Three: The Fight

After completing the tutorial, you enter the Sanctuary. Explore the Sanctuary and have a look at the services available to you. You can also visit the four elemental schools, which you can enter through large colored portals.

Whenever you feel ready you can enter into combat. Talk to the War Masters in the Sanctuary, and they will send you off to prove your worth by defeating players from other realms. There are five types of combat for which you can sign up:

image

Vortex - Vortex is best described as seriously advanced ‘capture the flag’. Your team must capture Vortex crystals and return them to your base, but beware – the crystals can be stolen from you too! This game type focuses on tactical play requiring you to form advanced strategies to out-play your opponent.

4v4 Elimination - 4v4 Elimination is straight up team deathmatch combat, pitting your skill and strength against your opponents in a fight to the death. You will need to think quickly as the ‘best of five' format allows you time to change your strategy if you lose a round.

1v1 Elimination - 1v1 Elimination is just you against your enemy. Fought over a 'best of three' format, this game type will definitely stretch your skills of survival and death dealing.

Bloodbath - Bloodbath is free-for-all mayhem - no rules here. It’s every man for himself, so survivability and killing power is the essential key. Collect blood tokens from your fallen enemies to build up points and climb the score board to victory.

Carnage - Carnage is Player vs Player vs Bots. Twp teams of four players compete against each other to slaughter the bots. Each bot killed drops a Blood Token, which can be returned to the team base. Victory goes to the team who collect the most Tokens.

Step Four: Combat

There is no ‘auto attacking’ in FURY. You will perform every attack by using a melee or ranged ability. You also have access to a host of abilities that have other functions: Speed boosts, snares, roots, stuns, field effects, targeted AoEs, and so on. Choosing the right combination of abilities is what makes FURY such a complex and tactical game.

The first thing most MMO players will notice in FURY is the lack of a mana bar. Instead of working with a finite amount of energy, Fury uses a ‘Charge’ system for abilities. Some of your abilities have a + symbol, which means they generate elemental charges. Other abilities have an ‘o’ symbol, which means they consume charges to produce a more powerful effect. Picking the right mix of abilities is crucial to your success. Be careful how you mix abilities. Fire and Water charges cancel each other, as do Nature and Air.

You can build up a maximum of 10 charges of two non-conflicting elements, and with every charge you build your damage for that element will increase. Here is an example of using charges:

image
Ability Element Charge Effect Description
Thunderstrike Air +2 (Generation) A physical attack that deals low Air damage and Diseases the target, increasing the amount of damage they take from Air attacks.
Shatter Air -4 (Consumption) A deadly physical attack that deals devastating Air damage and Diseases the target, lowering the effectiveness of their physical abilities.

With these two abilities you use Thunderstrike twice on an opponent to build up four charges, enough to perform Shatter. Alternatively you could use Thunderstrike four times (building up eight Air charges) to use Shatter twice.

Step Five: Rewards

image

At the end of each battle you are asked to claim your rewards. In front of you is a list of loot that your team has been awarded. You can use your ‘roll slots’ to choose which items you wish to roll on. You are free to use your roll slots on different items, or use them all on the same item to increase your chances of winning it. The number of slots available depends on your account type. Immortals receive the most, with three slots, while Heroes receive two slots.

At the bottom right of the rewards screen you will see the total amount of gold that your team won from the match. This gold will be evenly distributed amongst you and delivered to your mailbox along with any items you may have won. You can find mailboxes by looking for Quill & Parchment Icons within the Sanctuary.

From battle you are also awarded Essence. The amount you win depends on your performance within each battle and whether or not your team won. There are four types of essence representing the four elements. The type you earn is dictated by the abilities you use. For example, If you use Growth abilities then you are rewarded with Growth essence, and so on.

Step Six: Progression

imageAmongst the many non-player characters in the Sanctuary will find the Order of Guides. Each Guide holds a number of Trials, which you can complete by turning in the right amount of Essence. As you unlock more abilities through completing Trials you will become more versatile, with more options available for building your character.

Occasionally you need to purchase a prerequisite ability to gain access to a trial. For example; if you wish to branch out into another archetype you need to first purchase the starter abilities from that school. Using these abilities gains you access to Trials allowing you to progress further along that ability line. You can purchase abilities from Mentor NPCs, which can be found in the same areas as Guides.
